I rarely accept suggestions or pitches for book reviews. If you happen to send me a free book, I cannot guarantee that I will read it and I very likely will not review it. If you pitch me a book via email, I will consider it and respond to your request; I may say no because I am too busy. Most book reviews on The Starving Artist were chosen based on a personal TBR composed of thousands of books from a combination of several lists of “best” books, from the New York Times to Publishers Weekly to YA, religious, philosophical, and influential lists and beyond. Frequently, a book is reviewed just because I felt like reading it or had some other personal reason to read and share. I do not anticipate getting past my TBR for years; it is likely I will age out of life first.

I purchase or borrow from the library all books that I review with the exception of those listed as an ARC Review: those were often gifted to me in exchange for an honest review. I do not receive monetary compensation for writing reviews. I am honest to my own opinions at a given time in my life. These opinions are meant to be taken as such–opinions. I frequently point out the types of readers who might enjoy a book, even when I did not.

I don’t generally read e-books or listen to audiobooks, though I’m much more likely to be caught doing the latter. I do not often review small-numbers, self-published books, but it has been known to happen.

Once upon a time, I hosted some book-based giveaways (including book-related paraphernalia), usually calling attention to my own books or others published by Owl and Zebra Press. Should I do that sort of thing again, here are the guidelines.

1. Entrant must be at least 13 years old, unless otherwise noted.
2. Entrant must follow the rules listed, which will often include a requirement like sharing a page or link, tweeting, or liking a Facebook page.
3. Winners will have 72 hours to respond, otherwise a new winner will be chosen.
4. Items will be shipped at the convenience of the shipper and will be sent USPS in almost all circumstances. If the item needs to be custom made, then allow additional time for creation. I will not be responsible for lost, damaged or stolen items. Please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery, although you might get the item(s) much quicker.
5. All giveaways are open to international shipping, unless otherwise noted.
6. I reserve the right to disqualify entrants based on personal discretion (like if I catch you cheating or find out you broke a rule, etc.). Under such circumstances, a new winner will be chosen.
7. Winners chosen by computer randomizer from the group of entrants. NO favoritism based on absolutely anything.

Profane or gratuitously unkind comments will be deleted, as well as spam and other comments that I feel should be deleted or believe might be a troll. First-time commentors are mediated.

Photos copyright respective publishers (for books and movies), myself, and other internet sources. After September 9, 2020, photos are cited below them on first time use (even if considered fair use). Most frequently-used sources are Goodreads, Amazon, IMDB, Wikipedia, and myself.
