Things I have read that you will want to read. We’re sharing. And anything I share here is a small enough passage to make it sharable or is a work in the public domain.
- Seal Lullaby. The poem “Seal Song” from Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book, which begins the story of “The White Seal”
- To a Mouse. “To a Mouse” is a Robert Burns poem that inspired the title of Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. And it is excellent reading for Burns Night.
- first lines of Biography of X. Biography of X is a novel that looks like a biography, and this beginning is interesting in that it is a beginning of a novel.
- excerpt from White Noise. White Noise is a novel by Don Delillo, a farcical 80s classic, and this scene with the MC talking to his teen son IS farcical and also pretty brilliant as a piece of writing.
- excerpt of a hangover scene from Lucky Jim, a humorous satire by Kingsley Amis.
